Shut Down Windows 8 With a Keyboard Command (and Avoid the Charms Bar)

Shut Down Windows 8 With a Keyboard Command (and Avoid the Charms Bar)

Windows 8 has a lot of unpopular features, but they’re easy to get used to or fix with small tweaks. Burying the controls to shut down the computer though…that was an odd choice on Microsoft’s part. Luckily, you can avoid the charms bar with a keyboard shortcut.

If you, like many other Windows 8 users, aren’t fond of having to perform a mouse or touch gesture and multiple clicks just to restart your computer, there’s an old keyboard command you could employ to save yourself the trouble. Simply click your desktop background to deselect any open applications and click “Alt+F4.” That one simple command will bring up a dialog with your shutdown options.

Though this shortcut has been around for years, it’s never been more useful than it is now. If you’re having a hard time getting around Windows 8’s UI, check the link below for a few more keyboard commands that could make your life easier.
